Abstract

539,904. Current measurements. MARCHANT. E. W. May 23, 1940, No. 9108. [Class 37] The strength of an alternating current flowing in a conductor 1, which may have a non-magnetic metal sheath 2, but otherwise has such a sheath, Fig. 3 (not shown), temporarily applied to it, is measured by measuring the voltage induced in the sheath by Foucault currents by means of a voltmeter 6, which may be calibrated in amperes, between two fixed points whereat spikes 5 are applied, the spikes being insulatingly carried in a magnetic screen 3 preventing direct influence of the conductor-current on the meter circuit. The screen 3 may be only part cylindrical and support the meter, a handle being attached, or may be in the form of co-operating half-sleeves bolted together, Figs. 2 and 3, respectively (not shown).
