Abstract
523,406. Rolling tubes. DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Jan. 3, 1939, No. 174. Convention date, Jan. 5, 1938. [Class 83 (iv)] Skew-rolling.-A tubular blank is constructed by rolling to the shape shown to produce the neck and mouth or a closed bottom. part of a steel bottle, no mandrel being necessary and the blank being reduced and shaped between rolls 3, 4 and 5 skewed in one direction and one or more rolls 6 skewed in the opposite direction, the blank being guided in a hollow block- 12 having slots through which the rolls project. The inclination of the rolls may be adjusted as required by eccentric bearings. The rolls may be built up of individual rings 17<SP>1</SP>, 18, 19 independently rotatable to link the varying surface speeds of the work. Either the rolls or the work may be driven. Specification 220,632, [Class 83 (iv)], is referred to.
