[Class 4] [Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic accumulator for use on aircraft with hydraulic or oleo-pneumatic controls comprises a casing 1, containing liquid under pressure and connected at 4 to a pressure circuit, a substantially closed and deformable gas container 2 in the casing, and means for preventing excessive expansion of the container 2, for example a small orifice or split in the wall of the container, or a check valve 7, Fig. 2, so that the entry of liquid is prevented. As shown in Fig. 1, the container 2 is guided at 14 on a rod 12, and excessive pressure is relieved by escape of gas at the part 14. The liquid may be admitted into the space 3 by a conduit 4a provided with a check valve 24. In a modification, Fig. 3, a valve 16 carried by the container 2 has a stem 19 freely guided in an opening 18 and is acted upon by a spring 20 ; the valve is adapted to seat at 17 and close the opening 18 when the container 2 is fully expanded, and to open the valve on increase of the external liquid pressure. The container 2 may be of rubber, polyvinyl alcohol, polystyrol or the like.
