Abstract

462,904. Aircraft wing spars. VOGT, R. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25569. [Class 4] A conical tubular spar a, Figs. 1 and 2, tor single-spar aircraft wings consists of two approximately semicircular shells d, the abutting edges of which are overlapped by cover strips e. Shells d are of uniform thickness, but the breadth of strips e is varied along the span. In a modification, Fig. 3, shells g rolled into the sections shown from sheet metal are welded together along the neutral plane of the spar. The spars may be employed as fuel containers.
