Abstract
Alkali polysulphides, for instance, sodium polysulphides, are stabilized by the addition of thiocyanogen compounds other than ammonium thiocyanate. Solutions of the polysulphides may first be obtained and sodium or potassium thiocyanate be added, or the thiocyanate may be added to a melt of the sulphide crystals and the mixture be boiled with sulphur. The stabilized products may be incorporated in soap powder or in resin soap during or after manufacture of the latter. Dry products can be obtained by evaporation in vacuo, and solutions of the stabilized polysulphides, with or without soap, can be used as vermin-destroying compositions. The prior use of sugars or glycerine for stabilizing the polysulphides is referred to.ALSO:Vermin-destroying compositions comprise alkali polysulphides which have been stabilized by the addition of thiocyanogen compounds other than ammonium thiocyanate. Sodium or potassium thiocyanate may be used, and the stabilized products may be incorporated in soap powder or resin soap.
