Abstract

411,800. Arc -rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Tritle, J. F. ; 507, Seminole Drive, Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) March 9, 1934, No. 7556. Convention date, March 10, 1933. [Class 38 (v).] Magnetic blow-outs have their coils 13 in the form of a spirally-wounc conductor, the inner end 21 of which is dividec and the ends 19, 20 so formed are brought out on opposite sides to provide circuit connections. In building the coil, one end is divided and the limbs spread apart so that the coil can be wound between them. As applied to a contactor, Fig. 1 (not shown), the limbs are screwed and soldered or brazed to a member carrying the fixed contact, and are apertured to receive the fixing bolts of the pole-pieces. The arrangement is stated to be economical of space where a bank of contactors is employed, as on a locomotive. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the conductor end may be welded or brazed to a U-shaped conductor, or to separate conductors forming a U, and the coil wound between its limbs.
