[Class 55 (i).] In a stamping-apparatus for the coal charge in coking plants, the stamper 1 is driven by a belt 2 by the use of a rotating non-circular disc 3 which alternately tensions and slackens the belt, the peripheral part of the disc or pulley 3 being provided with loose rollers 13, 14 over which the belt rolls freely during the falling of the stamper. By this means the sliding friction of the belt, which causes wear when the latter passes over a plain disc, is avoided.
