Abstract

356,798. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing. STEADMAN, A. H., 23, Haigville Gardens, Barkingside, Essex. June 11, 1930, No. 17908. [Class 80 (ii).] A hydraulic coupling comprises channelshaped vanes 15, Fig. 1, on a drum 14, and vanes 19 on a member 20, the latter carrying pinions 21 meshing wit h bevel wheels 16, 22 on the driving and driven members. Some of the vanes 19 may be rotatable being carried by spindles 26, Fig. 3, movable manually to cause the vanes to engage with slots in sleeves 27 integral with the pinions 21. In a modification the spindles are moved outwardly by centrifugal force to cause projections to engage slots in the inner ends of the sleeves.
