Oct. 13, 1930, No. 30630. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1929. [Class 146 (iii).] A pen for the recording device of a measuring instrument comprises a tubular member connected to the measuring pointer and provided with an opening so dimensioned and arranged that a marking fluid is capable of issuing therethrough to mark the record surface in all positions of the pointer within a normal or predetermined range. In the form shown, Figs. 1 and 2, the measuring system r has a pointer o carrying a plate p on which are mounted trunnions m for a block k of light metal through which passes a tube f dipping into a receptacle i containing a colouring liquid. The upper part f<1> of the tube forms a prolongation of the pointer o and is flattened to an oval or rectangular cross section with a slot y along its length. This marking arm is counterbalanced by a poise h. The receptacle i may be mounted on the plate p or a stationary trough may be provided to receive the end f<11> of the tube. The record strip a is fed by clockwork or other means over an edge b or roller arranged parallel to the indicating scale.
