Abstract
335,422. Ratier, P. J. P. Oct. 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Air screws.-A variable-pitch air screw is constructed with blades which are retained in the hub sockets by means of an inclined thrust bearing which is provided with balls and in which the inclination is such that a couple is exerted on the blade which balances the twisting couple exerted thereon by the centrifugal force. The root of the blade 1 has secured thereto a sleeve 3 having an inclined helical outer thread 3a adapted to engage corresponding threads 2<a> on the hub socket 2, the two sets being disposed so as to accommodate between them a number of balls 5, which are retained between outer and inner spring stops 6, 7 bearing respectively against a key 8. The root of the blade is centered on a spigot 11<a> by means of a ball bearing 11. Pitch variation is effected by a pin 12 passing transversely through the root and coupled by levers to a plate 15 which is slidably adjustable on the hub sleeve 10.
