Endless-band conveyers; air and gases, controlling direction of flow of.-In a conveyer drier in which the material to be dried is carried through several compartments on a band while the drying agent passes upwards through the thickness of material in turn through the compartments, air locking devices are provided between the compartments and at the outer extremities of the end compartments. Air sealing devices supplement the function of the locks. The upper air lock between any two consecutive compartments b<1>, b<2>, comprises a hollow box a extending downwards from the roof of the drying chamber b to such an extent as to allow for possible increases in the thickness of the bed of material d carried on the band e. The width between the sides a<2> should preferably be from two to three times the thickness of material to prevent undue diversion of the drying agent through the material from compartment to compartment. Two air sealing devices are attached to the look, comprising light hollow rollers f adjustably attached by hanging supports g, Fig. 2, at the sides of the chamber and cover plates k, Fig. 1, adjustably attached to the walls a<2>. The upper air lock at the outer extremities of the end compartments have each one air seal on the inner side of the lock. The lower air lock between any two consecutive compartments comprises two steel partition plates m, in line with plates a<2> and furnished with upper extensions n pivotally mounted at o. The lower air locks at the outer extremities of the end compartments have a single partition plate.
