Machine guns.-Relates to short barrel-recoil guns, for example such as are described in Specification 315,464, and in which the firing pin 30 is cocked during the return of the breech-bolt 16 by the engagement of a projection 32 on the firing pin with a catch 33 on the gun casing. According to the invention, another catch 35 is mounted on the breech-bolt and is controlled by a cam groove 36<b>, 36<e>, 36<d>, 36/, 36<c> on the gun casing, so that it engages with a notch 30<a> in the firing pin after this has been cocked, and thereafter holds the firing pin cocked until the breechbolt reaches a definite position in its closing movement, when the catch 35 releases the firing pin. While the catch 35 holds the firing pin cocked, the cocking catch 33 is wedged aside by a cam 34 on the breech-bolt, so that the actual release of the firing pin is determined by the catch 35 under the control of the cam groove. The trigger for this gun is described in Specification 313,403.
