Abstract

296,139. Luxford, W. Dec. 15, 1927. Hand tools for destroying weeds and cutting turf.-In a weed extractor and turf replacer comprising a tubular cutter a carried by a tubular shaft d and and an ejector piston h operated by a rod g passing through the tubular shaft, the rod g is provided with a projection or pin l adapted to engage with a longitudinal slot i in the shaft d and with transverse slots j, k communicating with the slot i, so that the ejector h may be moved up or down in the cutter a and may be locked in position at different heights in it for extracting a weed or cutting a turf of greater depth to replace it. The cutter a and handle f are connected to the tube d by a reducing socket c and a shoulder piece e respectively. The handle f and the piston h are preferably made of wood and the handle g<1> of the rod g of metal. The piston may be provided with cup-leather or other washers, and the cutter tube a with an air hole a'.
