Abstract

Cutting slices in succession.-In a slicing machine wherein the reciprocating table is supported by rollers, means are provided for covering the rollers and also the surface or surfaces on which they run. As shown in Fig. 2, the carriage 4 is supported and guided by rollers 6 having V- sectioned peripheries engaging with a corresspondingly sectioned track 7. The rollers are journaled on shafts 12 and are covered by an arcuate member 8 running over the whole length of the track. Lifting is prevented by a plate 13 engaging a groove 14 in the track 7. In Fig. 3, the carriage 4 is supported on rollers 6 and the track 7 is integral with the cover 15, 15', 16. Lateral movement of the carriage is prevented by a guide surface 17 and an adjustable guide block 18 engaging the exterior of the sides 15, 15' of the cover. In Fig. 4, a guide block 24 attached to an arm projecting from the carriage 4 runs between the laterally adjustable rail 7 and the side 25 of the cover-member. In Fig. 5, the rollers 6 are journaled in U-shaped brackets depending from the carriage 4 and lateral play is prevented by the lower edges of the cover 8 engaging in recesses 23 in the brackets. In a modification, a frame on which the side-play rcllers are carried, is supported on a bracket depending from the table and carrying a roller 6. In another modification, the side-play rollers bear on the outside of the vertical flanges of the cover-member. In further modifications, the side-play rollers are arranged beneath the axles of the rollers, or the one side-play roller operates internally and the other side-play roller operates externally of the cover-member. In Fig. 10, the carriage 4 is supported at the side adjacent to the knife by rollers 37 on laterally adjustable spindles 41. The rollers engage the inturned parts 38 and the vertical sides 39 of the cover member which extends the whole length of the machine. In Fig. 12, the carriage is supported at the knife side by two rollers 37 and one roller 48 within a cover-member 49-53, the rollers 37 bearing on a ledge 7. At the other side, the carriage is supported by a roller 37<1> engaging a channel-shaped guide 42-44. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the construction shown in Figs. 6, 7 (Cancelled), in which the carriage 4 is supported by rollers 6 and guided laterally by rollers 26, 27 journaled in a frame 28 secured to the carriage. The roller 27 is mounted on an eccentric axle 31 having an arm 60 pressed towards the guide face 30 by a spring 61. Movement in the opposite direction is prevented by a stop-screw 32. The spring 61 thereby keeps the roller 27 pressed against the guide face 30 and automatically takes up wear. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
