Abstract

A system of panels to form furniture, where the panels have vertical and horizontal cavities or slots as the connection means. In one embodiment, a horizontal member is connected to at least two vertical members 2.4 using corresponding slots 2.2, and a third horizontal member is then perpendicularly joined to the two vertical members using the matching vertical slots 2.1. The system allows furniture to be built without the need for tools or adhesives, creating a stable furniture piece by interlocking the individual modular parts. The panels are made of a rigid material such as wood or plastics. The panel members are manufactured by either cutting including laser cutting, or by plastic injection. The panels can be used to make a wide range of furniture types including chairs, shelving, wardrobes, tables, cupboards and many others.

Description

Title:
Flat pack furniture mounting system Technical filed:
Product design
Description of the invention:
The present invention comprises a furniture mounting system which allows the customer to mount any furniture piece without the need of any tools, such that said furniture piece is simultaneously mounted cheaply, extremely rapidly and efficiently, while offering a very cheap furniture product due to the very few operations required to manufacture the components.
This mounting system comprises a set of at least one horizontal member which comprises horizontally projecting cavities which are inserted onto the horizontally projecting cavities of a set of at least two vertical members. Finally, a perpendicularly positioned vertical member is inserted into the vertically projecting cavities of both previously stated vertical members, as well as into a horizontally projecting cavity which is positioned at each inner edge of each of said horizontal members and which projects perpendicularly to the other two said horizontally projecting cavities of said horizontal member. This configuration hence offers a fully stable, presentable and well mounted furniture system. Said perpendicularly positioned vertical member comprises a least two vertically projecting cavities, which insert into said vertically projecting cavities of said other two vertical members.
No prior art shows to comprise the content concerned on the mounting system comprised in this invention.
Figure 1 shows a top view of one of the horizontal members of said furniture mounting system.
Figure 2 shows a front view of one of the vertical members onto which said horizontal members are inserted.
Figure 3 shows a front view of the perpendicularly projecting vertical member which inserts into the vertically projecting cavities of said members of Figure 2 and onto the other inner horizontally projecting cavities of said members of Figure 1.
Figure 4 comprises a side view of said members of Figure 1 being inserted onto said members of Figure 2.
Figure 5 comprises a side view of said member of Figure 3 being inserted onto said members of Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 6 comprises a top view of said member of Figure 3 being inserted onto said members of Figures 1 and 2.
The present invention comprises a furniture mounting system which is comprised by at least one (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), preferably at least two (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), and most preferably more than three parallel positioned horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) which comprise parallel projecting rectangular cavities (1.5) which project horizontally and insert into the parallel projecting horizontally projecting rectangular cavities (2.2) of at least two parallel positioned vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1), which each (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1) comprises a vertically upward projecting rectangular cavity (2.1) positioned behind said horizontally projecting rectangular cavities (2.2) of these (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1), onto which the vertically downward parallel projecting rectangular cavities (3.2) of a vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) are inserted, such that said last vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) is positioned perpendicularly to the other mentioned outer vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1), as well as the horizontal members (1.1, 4.1,5.1,6.2).
The furniture system comprised in this invention is very easily mounted. The horizontal elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) can be mounted onto the parallel vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1), followed by the mounting of the perpendicular vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) onto the parallel projecting vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1).
The parallel projecting vertical cavities (2.1, 3.2) of the vertical members (2.4, 3.1) all project in parallel to each other, while these (2.1, 3.2) project perpendicularly to the parallel projecting cavities (1.5) of the horizontal elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2).
The parallel horizontally projecting rectangular cavities (1.5) of the horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) should preferably project from around the middle area of the main body of the horizontal elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), such that an optimum combination is reached between the distribution of the weight being applied on said horizontal elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), and the stability of the mounted structure. The stability of the structure of the parallel vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1) is also optimised in that way, as the weight applied by the horizontal member (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) on it should not damage the structure of said vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1).
The parallel projecting cavities (1.5, 3.2) comprised on the vertical perpendicular member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) and the horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) should preferably be two parallel projecting cavities (1.5, 3.2), but if more cavities (1.5, 3.2) are required for a furniture product, this mounting system allows for that to be fully optional and functional. The number of parallel projecting cavities (1.5, 3.2) in both the vertical perpendicular member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) and the horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), should however be equal in order for the members (1.1, 2.4, 3.1) of the mounting system to be fully fitted and properly mounted altogether.
In said furniture mounting system, said horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) are shaped such that the outer members (1.2) which are positioned beside said parallel horizontally projecting rectangular cavities (1.5), project further horizontally than the inner member (1.4) of the body (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), which is situated between said two horizontally projecting rectangular cavities (1.5).
Said outer members (1.2) of the horizontal elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) comprise a rectangular cavity (1.3) which projects horizontally and inwards towards the other said oppositely projecting rectangular cavity (1.3) on the other outer member (1.2) of said outer members, such that said rectangular cavities (1.3) project just along the edge of the inner member’s (1.4) inner end, and opposite to each other (1.3), thus making part of the horizontal elements (1.1,4.1,5.1,6.2).
The lateral side members (3.3) of said perpendicular positioned vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) therefore insert onto said perpendicularly horizontally projecting cavities (1.3) when being inserted, while simultaneously inserting the main body wall (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) of said perpendicular vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) just behind the edge of the inner rear members (1.4) of the horizontally positioned elements (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2), thus without affecting the mounted topology of said perpendicular vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) and said horizontal members (1.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.2) onto the other parallel positioned vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1).
All members (1.1, 2.4, 3.1) are comprised as flat sheet or plate geometries, thus all comprising mostly rectangular geometries and/or topologies.
The parallel projecting cavities (2.1) of the parallel positioned vertical members project from approximately the middle of said member (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1) towards the upper end edge of said members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1), such that the lateral members (2.3) positioned beside each of said cavities (2.1) comprise a small width, thus meaning that said cavities (2.1) are positioned along and near the outer edges of said vertical members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1).
The parallel projecting cavities (3.2) of the perpendicularly positioned vertical member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) project from approximately the middle of said member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) towards the lower end edge of said member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3), such that the lateral members (3.3) positioned beside each of said cavities (3.2) comprises a small width, thus meaning that said cavities (3.2) are positioned along and near the outer edges of said vertical perpendicular member (3.1,5.3,6.3).
The furniture system can also be positioned on the opposite way round, thus meaning that said vertical parallel positioned members (2.4, 4.2, 5.2, 6.1) comprise downward vertically parallel projecting cavities (2.1), onto which the upward vertically parallel projecting cavities (3.2) of said vertical perpendicular member (3.1, 5.3, 6.3) are hence being inserted, thus resulting in a furniture system which is mounted with the same mounting system according to the above, but vertically inversely, and thus comprising oppositely positioned and oppositely parallel projecting vertical geometries (2.1, 2.3, 3.2, 3.3) and cavities (2.1, 3.2) on said vertical members (2.4, 3.1).
The members of said mountable furniture system is made of solid rigid materials such as wood, MDF, plywood and/or plastic, preferably PVC or a polyolefin.
Said mountable furniture system’s members (1.1, 2.4, 3.1) are manufactured by machining, preferably cutting, of sheets of material to the required profiles, such as laser cutting and/or profiling, or by plastic injection processes.
Said mountable furniture system can be comprised in shelves, shelving members, bookcases, closets, cupboards, curio cabinets, hutches, pantries, chests, chests of drawers, hope chests, dressers, coat racks, filing cabinets, nightstands, ottomans, sideboards, buffets, safes, umbrella stands, wardrobes, armoires, wine racks, chairs, fauteuils, recliners, chaise longue, stools, benches, sofas, divans, love seats, beds, daybeds, futons, headboards, infant beds, sofa beds, tables, billiard tables, chess tables, dining tables, night tables, coffee tables, drop-leaf tables, end tables, folding tables, gateleg tables, poker tables, trestle tables, TV tray tables, wine tables, entertainment centres, changing tables, desks, davenport desks, drawing boards, computer desks, writing desks, monks benches, workbenches, bedroom sets, dinettes, dining sets, vanity sets, built-in furniture, campaign furniture, folding screens, work furniture, garden furniture, partitions, furnished lamps, clothes valets, tatami mats used for seating, drapes, aquarium furniture, doors, door furniture, windows, hutches, park furniture, picnic tables, stadium seating, street furniture, sword furniture, furniture finishings.
