Breech actions, sliding breech-block; magazines.-A cartridge magazine in the stock comprises a number of longitudinal tubes 3 from which the cartridges are pressed by springs to a revolving drum 13 which feeds them to the breech action. As shown, there are four tubes 3 in the stock, two on each side of the central plane, and six chambers in the drum. The tubes are arranged to leave a central space for the firing mechanism. The drum is formed with six helical slots 35, Fig. 6, and six straight slots 33 which communicate with the chambers. A projection 32 on the breech-bolt engages a helical slot during the rearward stroke and rotates the drum, and during the forward stroke passes along a straight slot and feeds a cartridge to the barrel. The tubes are filled through apertures 4 at the sides of the stock. The rifle shown has a rotary bolt 22 operated by a hand-slide 24 beneath the barrel.
