Abstract

A sectional glass bath made from toughened glass, the sections of glass are glued together to form the bath. The sectional bath may allow the bath to be easily transported, and constructed at the point of installation. Preferably the glass bath is constructed from at least three sections, a top/rim section, a base section and a section forming the sides of the bath. The sides of the bath may be constructed from one or more sections that are glued together. The sides are glued to the base that may have a pre drilled waste discharge hole and anti slip grooves. The top/rim section may then be glued to the side section(s) thereby increasing the strength of the bath. The top/rim section may have pre-drilled tap holes. The glass sections may be formed using conventional methods of moulding or shaping flat glass and reinforcing glass, and the size and angles of each section may be altered to suit the end user. The bath may have waterproof lighting to provide a visual effect.

Description

C
Description
Construction of a Glass Bath by Sections There are many problems associated with manufacture and usage of a glass bath, (a) safety, (b) manufacturing, (c) transport, (d) user friendly (e) design.
Safety -this method of construction of a glass bath deals with many safety aspects. As a whole construction all parts are toughened and glued together to provide excellent strength throughout. For the bottom of the bath anti-slip grooves are provided to ensure further users safety.
Due to the fact that it is made in many parts it is therefore much safer to transport. All edges are polished for excellent tactile properties.
Manufacture -this method utilizes excellent modern manufacturing methods and systems in terms of cutting, shaping, polishing and toughening. This ensures speed of manufacturing, cost and the quality to be very competitive.
Transport -to transport a whole glass bath from one destination to another is very difficult. Because this glass bath is made in different sections it can be transported much safer and easier.
Comfort -by shaping the main body of the bath to meet exact requirements in terms of comfort this glass bath can be made as comfortable as any conventionally made bath.
Design -it is very easy to change the design of this glass bath compared to any other conventional bath. Also as whole transparent construction it, provides excellent visual and aesthetic effects.
The process begins by shaping the two main parts of the body, Fig. 2a and b (top view). Fig. 3a and b (side view), from a flat, possibly 20mm glass sheet, cut out Fig. 7.
A cut out pattern in Fig. 7 is first identified and cut out of the glass sheet Fig. 7. This pattern is then shaped to form half of the body of the bath. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 each show the fmal shape of both halves of the body of the bath. Pre-calculated measurements keyed in the cut out pattern of Fig. 7 will determine the important features of the body of the bath, such as height Fig. 3h, angle of lean, Fig. 3, length of the bath Fig. 3w and shape of the bath Fig. 2a and b. By varying these measurements in the pre-cut pattern Fig. 7 the final bath can be made in different sizes, shapes and various angles of lean.
In addition the edges of two curved parts of the cut out piece (top curve and base curve) shown in Fig. 7 are set and would be cut at such angles that when shaping is complete the base curve Fig. 7 would sit fiat on the base of the bath and the top curve would acconunodate the top of the bath in a flat position. Again these angles are totally dependant on shape, size and angle of lean Fig. 3.
Cutting and shaping the main body is the most important and novel way.
Once one half of the main body of the glass bath is made with the desired measurements Fig. 2a it can be used as the other half of the main body Fig. 2b, since both parts are identical.
Obviously using the same part twice makes manufacturing and transportation of the glass bath much easier and cost effective.
However with modem glass manufacturing methods the main body of this bath Fig. 4 can be made using this processes calculations in one piece rather than two pieces.
The main body of the bath Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 can also be made with moulding methods either in two or one process.
Once the body of the bath is made, toughened and joined together they are mounted on top of the base of the glass bath either Fig. 5a or Fig. 5b. The base of the bath Fig. 5a and Fig. 5b are cut out of a flat piece of glass. Fig. 5a is a base that is designed to follow the nearly oval shape of the base of the body of the bath. Whereas Fig. 5b is designed to protrude beyond the base of the bath for additional design purposes, that is to say the shape of the base of the glass bath can vazy according to design.
A drainage hole Fig. 5 and anti-slip grooves are provided for the bath and are polished before the glass is toughened. Once the body and base of the bath are fixed together, due to the shape of the body and that it is sitting on the top of the base and are glued, they form a vety strong construction. After this process the top of the bath Fig. 6a or Fig. 6b is mounted on top of the glass bath. The top is cut out of a flat sheet of glass and toughened. This top Fig. 6a or Fig. 6b has a cut out in the middle in accordance with the top of the body of the glass bath Fig. 4. Its outer perimeters shape is entirely determined by requirement of any particular design, i.e. Fig. 6a has a rectangular shape which allows the whole bath to be fitted comfortably within a rectangular space, which then provides better seal with its surroundings and consequently provides good showering facilities. The gluing of the top of the bath to the body of the bath will further strengthen the whole structure. Also in Fig. 6a are provided pre-drilled tap holes that allows chrome taps to be fitted. Whereas Fig. 6b is a top used for free standing type glass bath.
Due to relative ease by which modern glass manufacturing can provide all parts of this glass bath, this method can be used to not only make a standard glass bath, similar to conventional type but also provide many other design contributions with novel and individual features.

Claims (18)

  1. Claims 1. That this glass bath construction is made of different parts
