Abstract

A free-standing portable toilet seat comprising a main frame which sits over a conventional toilet bowl, to the top of which a toilet seat (6) and lid (7) are attached by means of a hinge (8).

Description

PORTABLE TOILET SEAT This invention relates to free-standing toilet seats, in particular those to be mounted over conventional toilet bowls, in order to provide stability to the user.
Such seats are well known, particularly those used by infirm persons, but suffer from the disadvantage that they do not provide adequate support for larger persons The object of this invention is to provide a free-standing portable toilet seat which, when mounted over a conventional toilet bowl, gives adequate support and stability to persons of varying weights and sizes, therefore being suitable for use by all.
According to this invention a free-standing portable toilet seat comprises a main frame which sits over a conventional toilet bowl, to the top of which a toilet seat and lid are attached, by means of a hinge.
The frame itself, which is made entirely of wood, sits at a fixed height above the toilet bowl which is non-adjustable. Both seat and lid rotate freely about the hinge so can be raised or lowered with ease by the user, and the simplicity of the design means the invention is easily cleaned.
A constructional form of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 is a front perspective view showing the invention with both the seat and lid elevated.
FIGURE 2 is the right side view of the invention relative to figure 1, the left side view being much the same.
With reference to Figure 1 there is shown a main wooden frame consisting of a square top piece (5) with a central hole. From the four comers of this top piece extend four vertical solid wooden posts numbered 2,3, 4 and 5.
On the rear edge of the top piece (5) is a hinge (8) to which a seat (6) and lid (7) are attached.
Both the lid and seat rotate about this hinge and may be raised or lowered manually by the user.

  1. CLAIMS 1. A free-standing portable toilet seat comprising a main frame which sits over a conventional toilet bowl, to the top of which a toilet seat and lid are attached by means of a hinge.
  2. 2. A toilet seat as claimed in claim 1 in which the seat and lid may be raised or lowered manually by the user
