Abstract

The invention relates to water- resistant fixing device of a glass on an element of a watch case. The lower face of the glass 1 is provided with a peripheral bevel defining, with the frontal and lateral walls of a shoulder step 3 carried by the element 2 of the watch case, a recess having an "O Ring" seal 5. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Water-resistant fixing device of a mirror on an element of a watch case The present invention relates to a water-resistant fixing device of a mirror on an element, bezel or middle-bezel for example, of a watch case.
Generally, the middle of a watch case is provided with a shoulder step, defining a housing for the mirror, on which the said mirror rests. The water-resistant fixation of the mirror on said middle is obtained by placing a compressible gasket between the periphery of the mirror and the middle of the watch case.
The compressible gasket has generally the shape of a I or of a L, it can sometimes be partially housed in a groove provided in the middle to ascertain its axial positioning.
In these realizations, the upper face of the gasket is visible and this hurts the esthetical outlook of the watch. Furthermore, at the contact of air and dust, the gasket can be damaged. Finally, the aging of the gasket causes its cracking causing defects of the water-resistance.
There are also watch cases in which the mirror is glued in a housing of the middle part of the watch. In these latter realizations, the replacement of the mirror, when it is scratched for example, is difficult and the water-resistance is not guaranteed.
The present invention has for its object a water-resistant fixation of the mirror on an element of a watch case tending to overcome the drawbacks of the precited realizations.
This device presents the characteristics mentioned in claim 1.
The attached drawing shows schematically and by way of example two emnodiments of the water-resistant fixing device according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows a partial cross-section of a watch case using the water-resistant fixing device for the mirror according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a partial cross-section at greater scale of a watch case showing one embodiment of the water-resistant fixing device of the mirror.
Figure 3 is a partial cross-section at greater scale of a watch case showing another em bodiment of the water resistant fixing device of the mirror.
In the embodiment shown at Fig. 3, the water-resistant fixing device of the mirror 1 on a middle 2 of the watch case comprises a shoulder step 3 provided in the middle 2 which can be separated from the upper face of this middle by a distance of 0,75 mm for example. This shoulder step is located on the whole periphery of the middle and determines a housing intended to receive the mirror 1.
The mirror 1 has a diameter or an outside dimension for the shaped watch cases, corresponding to the dimensions of the housing of the middle so that this mirror is fastened in the housing of the middle. Preferably, the mirror 1 is driven in the said housing of the middle 2, but it could also be glued in said housing.
The lower face of the mirror comprises a bevel 4 defining, in service position, an annular cavity with the angle of the housing provided in the middle 2. A "O Ring" gasket 5 having a circular shape or another shape, corresponding to the one of the middle 2 is, in service position, compressed in said cavity which it fills practically entirely and guarantees a perfect water-resistance between the middle 2 and the mirror 1. This gasket 5 is entirely protected and does not extend between the mirror and the middle which are in tight mechanical contact on a portion of the thickness of the mirror 1.
For the gasket 5 to be not visible through the mirror 1, this gasket can be translucent or transparent. In another realization the beveled face 4 of the mirror can be metallized or opaque-ground making thus a mask for the gasket 5.
In its non deformed state the gasket can have a section having a diameter of 0,3 mm for example.
The main advantages of this realization are: 1. The mirror 1 is in mechanical contact with the middle 2 providing for a perfect fixing of said mirror.
2. The gasket 5 is entirely protected, avoiding any accidental damaging of said gasket and reducing its aging.
3. The gasket 5 is not visible.
4. This realization can be applied to the circular or shaped watches and is particularly well adapted for extra-thin watches, since it takes no place in height, permitting in certain cases to reduce the height of the watch case.
In the embodiment of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the middle 2 comprises also an inclined face 6. This enables, for a same dimension of the gasket 5, and thus of the cavity receiving it, to reduce the length of the beveled face 4 of the mirror and thus of the height of said cavity, enabling also to reduce the height of the mirror and of the shoulder step of the middle.
Here also, the mirror 1 is driven in or glued in the housing of the middle 2 and the gasket is made to be invisible either because it is translucide or by metallization or opaquegrinding of the beveled face of the mirror 1.
On top of the precited advantages, this second realization enables a further reduction of the height of the mirror and of the watch case.
Preferably the beveled face 4 of the mirror 1 forms an angle of 45 with the lower face of said mirror 1.
