Abstract

206,109. International Motor Co., (Assignees of Masury, A. F., and Leipert, A. H.). Oct. 25, 1922, [Convention date]. Laminar springs; india-rubber and like springs; spring shackles. - In a vehicle spring suspension in which the end of a laminated spring is connected to the frame through a yielding non-metallic block confined under compression, the block bears upon non-adjacent faces of a spring leaf and a spacer element so as to relieve adjacent leaves of the spring from friction or pressure therebetween. As shown, the master leaf D<1> of the laminated spring extends into a block E of india-rubber &c. confined within a housing B, secured to the frame A, by a cap B<2> held in place by bolts B<3>. The next leaf D<2> is made shorter than the leaf D<1> to provide space for a spacer block F secured to the leaf D<1> and spaced from the end of, and preferably of greater thickness than, the leaf D<2>. Seats D<3>, G for the block E may be secured to the leaf D' and the spacer block F, and these seats are conveniently secured by a rivet I that connects the spacer block to the leaf. The block E, instead of being made in one piece as shown, may be formed of parts properly seated within the housing. The connection shown is for the rear end of a front spring; connection for both ends of a rear spring are also illustrated.
