Abstract

This invention provides a ladle nozzle block 21 closed by a thin sheet 22 of e.g. aluminium foil, wrapped around the outlet end and held on by a band 23. The block is filled with sand 24 which may be retained in place by a cardboard wad 25. The foil 22 may be perforated to prevent the sand from retaining moisture as an alternative to the arrangement shown a sand-filled plastic bag or 'cassette' may be pushed up into the bore and retained in place by the foil. The sealed nozzle may be made in advance of its installation in the ladle or it may be made up on site. <IMAGE>
