Abstract

16,362. Officine di Villar Perosa. Sept. 8, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Consists in providing special means to ensure that the advance of the percussion-pin to fire the gun will take place simultaneously with the rotary closing movement of the breech-block. Fig. 1 shows the barrel 1 screwed to a fixed breech-casing 7 attached by means of a pin 28 to a handle-block 3. The hollow breech-block 9 is guided by a projection 10, Fig. 9, in a slot 12 in the side of the breech-casing, the slot having a right-handed helical portion 13 at its front end to effect rotary closing movement of the breech-block. The firing-pin 14, sliding in the breech-block and controlled by a spring 16, has a projection 15 which slides in the slot 12 and is provided with a left-handed helical face 15<1> engaging a corresponding surface 15<2> on the breech-block 9. To operate the gun, the breech-block is first moved rearwards by means of a handle 11 on the projection 10 until held by the engagement of a trigger-lever 31 in a slot 33. By pressing the firing-button 30, the breech-block and firing-pin are permitted to move forwards together under the action of the spring 16, thereby inserting a cartridge into the barrel from a magazine (not shown). The firing-pin is advanced by the engagement of the faces 15<1>, 15<2> to fire the cartridge during the rotary closing movement of the breechblock. The breech-block is held at the moment of firing by the rear face of the slot 13, but, when the friction is overcome, the breech-block recoils, the pivoted extractor 23 withdraws the cartridge case, and the fixed pin 21 ejects it. The gun then fires automatically so long as the firing-button is kept pressed. Two similar guns are mounted side by side in a common handleblock carrying two trigger-levers one or both of which may be locked by a centrally-pivoted safety lever 36. The cartridge-magazine is con nected to the gun by turning a sleeve 19 to engage projections on the magazine.
