Abstract

Machine guns.-Relates to muzzle attachments for obscuring the flash of discharge, and consists in providing, in a chamber in line with the barrel, baffle-plates to deflect the powder gases through openings into a surrounding expansion chamber having apertures at the bottom which are entirely covered by a hood, the outlets from which are invisible from the front or sides of the gun. Figs. 3 and 4 show longitudinal and transverse sections through the device, which is attached at d to the muzzle of the gun, and comprises a tube a arranged in line with the bore of the gun and provided with inclined baffle-plates a<5>, a<6>, a<9>, which deflect the powder gases through openings a<1>, a<2>, a<3> and smaller openings a<11> into the expansion chamber b, from which they escape into an outer semicircular chamber c and thence pass to the atmosphere through openings c', c<2>. Minute openings c<5> in the front part of the chamber c permit air to enter. The openings a' in the inclined baffles through which the bullet passes may be made progressively larger from front to rear. The front part of the tube a is enclosed and provided with one or more baffle-plates a<10> to act as a spark-arrester. Specification 24,766/10 is referred to.
