Cooling - towers.-The cooled water is collected immediately it leaves the cooling-hurdles or the like by means of troughs into which it is directed by boards or trays overlapping in steps. At about the level of the lower edges of the walls a is fixed a series of troughs d arranged to discharge into a common trough e and thence to a tank f. The water is directed to the troughs d by boards c, arranged to form inclined planes, or in steps as shown; or a series of overlapping trays c<1> disposed in steps may be used. The trough e, instead of discharging into a tank f, may be connected directly to the suction pipe g.
