Jib cranes; overhead travellers and transporters.-Relates to self-contained tower derricks of the kind in which a vertical mast having a boom is rotatably supported within a tower without guys or supports of any kind. The standard is supported on piers 1 carried by piles 2 tied together by rods 3, 4 embedded in the piers. The corner posts 10 of the standard are secured to the piers 1 by anchorage rods 5, and the usual tie-rods and cross-braces are provided. The jib 42 is hinged to a turntable resting on a platform 13 on the top of the standard. The crane post 19 is of skeleton .form tapered at both ends, and its lower end rests on a spherical bearing 17 on a platform 16. A series of adjustable rollers mounted on the post engage within a circular track on the upper platform 13, and the post is slued by a pinion engaging a stationary circular rack 28. The hoisting-drum, luffing-drum, and the gear for driving the slueing-pinion are mounted on the platform 27 and are controlled by clutches &c. from the operator's stand 40. The jib 42 may be rigidly connected to the post 19 and provided with a track on which runs a trolly with suspended load.
