Abstract

1540. Godsal, P. T. Jan. 20. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to bolt-action rifles of the kind in which a non- rotary bolt head and a rotary locking-bolt are carried on s sliding carrier, as described for example in Specifications 22,003/02 and 10,169/13. The invention consists in mounting the hammer and sear on the carrier and in arranging the hammer to be cocked by the rotary unlocking movement of the bolt. The bolt f, Figs. 1 and 5, has a rearward extension to which a cocking-cam k, shown detached in Figs. 6 and 7, is keyed. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the hammer l is a pivoted one, mounted on a tie-piece which extends from the bolt-head to the rear part of the carrier. In a modification, the hammer is a sliding one. The pivoted sear o is mounted on the carrier and may either be operated by a trigger and vertical plunger, as shown in Fig. 1, or by a thumb-piece on the sear itself.
