Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-The rotating parts of a gas turbine are packed by plates intermeshing in an axial direction. In one arrangement, intermeshing rings e, f, Fig. 2, are carried by conical flanges on the rotating part and on the casing. In modifications, circumferentially corrugated conical , disks are employed, as shown in Fig: 1. The disks are so arranged that the inclines g are closer together than the inclines h. The corrugated disks may be replaced by corrugated cylinders, as shown in Fig. 3.
