Abstract

1534505 Fluid-blast circuit-breakers REYROLLE PARSONS Ltd 9 Jan 1976 [11 Oct 1974] 44232/74 Heading H1N A fluid-blast interrupter having an enclosure filled with insulating fluid, such as SF 6 or oil, has a pair of tubular contact members 10, 11 each containing an arc root electrode 12, 13 and the member 11 having an extension 12 which engages and makes sliding contact with the member 10 in the contact closed position. The separable contact ends are enclosed in an inner insulating housing 20 secured (at 11a) to the contact member 11 and means, such as a fixed piston 24 and cylinder 23 on the housing 20, drives fluid into the contact region as the contacts separate to form an arc between the tip 16 of member 10 and contact fingers 28 of the extension 26 so that the arc is driven to a position 30A between the electrodes 12, 13. The nozzle ends 16, 17 of members 10, 11 may be made of are-erosion-resistance material as also may the contact fingers 28 which may seal the inside of the members 10, 11 from the chamber formed by the housing 20. Gas which is forced through the members 10, 11 or circuit interrupter may be filtered and returned to the main tank (not shown). Separate inlet blast valve means may admit fluid to the housing 20 just before the contacts open.
