Abstract

The tension of the paper web (1) can be varied by adjusting a braking roller (30). Furthermore, the tension can be displayed (27) or recorded (28). Variations in tension in the paper web (1) are determined by means of strain gauges, which are mounted in the base region of bearing supports (3, 4). Two strain gauges are present for each bearing support, and are mounted on axially parallel surfaces of the bearing support one behind another in the direction of the paper web, the expression axially parallel applying with reference to a web-deflecting roller (2). The paper web (1) presses onto this roller (2). So that the force exerted by the web on the roller (2) is not vertical but extends at an inclination to the vertical, the inlet angle of the web (1) relative to the roller (2) is selected to differ from the outlet angle. In order to achieve a high sensitivity to the extension of the bearing supports (3, 4), the vertical member of the bearing supports is dimensioned in an appropriately yielding fashion. Plug and socket connections (24) to the strain gauges lead to a measuring device (26) by means of which a controller (29) for adjusting the braking roller (30) can be influenced. A desired tension of the paper web can be held constant by control. <IMAGE>
