Abstract

The medium bearing the particles to be precipitated is passed through a channel into a precipitation station (10). Electrodes are introduced into the medium in order to produce ions of both preceding signs. Finally, the medium with the loaded particles is subjected to the action of a substantially even and strong electrical field so that the loaded particles are attracted to one or more electrodes (28). The precipitation station has a central part between an inlet (12) and an outlet (14) for the medium, in which part are arranged at least one positive electrode (26) and at least one negative electrode (28). Furthermore, the precipitation station comprises means for applying a voltage difference to the electrodes in order to produce a high electrical field in the central part of the station. Furthermore, it comprises a high-energy electron-beam source (20) in order to produce a supply of positive ions. Extremely small particles of diameters between 0.1 to 5 microns, for example, can be removed from a gaseous medium. <IMAGE>
