Abstract

1496142 Hand brakes BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 22 May 1975 [1 June 1974] 24369/74 Heading F2E A manual brake control 4 which is biased in one direction has a latch 12 which must be manually engaged but is automatically released by moving the control against its bias. As shown, latch 12 is engaged, after lever 4 has been moved to the brake applying (full-line) position, by depressing button 8, and hence rod 7, sufficiently to allow the latch to engage under a housing surface 14. Spring 13, acting on rod 7, releases the latch after slight upward movement of the lever. The latter is connected to a pneumatic brake control valve by link 5, the valve assembly including a spring which biases the lever to the brake-release (dotted-line) position. The bias could be in the opposite sense, the invention could be applied to a non- pivoting control and the latch could be engageable at any point in its range.
