Abstract

1487264 Cigarette packet BRITISHAMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 24 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 3231/75 Headings B8C and B8P A cigarette packet comprises an outer shell 12 having open sides and having a first part 32 of its bottom panel hinged to the second part 34, and an inner shell 14 connected to the part 32 so that it may be pivoted to the Fig. 2 position for removal of the cigarettes, the inner shell having an edge 50 slidably engaging the top panel of the outer shell to provide friction locking of the two shells, and the outer shell having an abutment surface 40 for liming pivotal movement of the inner shell. The outer shell top panel comprises two layers, the lower one having a tab cut out and bent back to form the abutment surface 40. Blanks are described, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), for the inner and outer shells. In an alternative embodiment, the two shells are produced from a single blank, Fig. 15 (not shown), the inner shell has no bottom panel apart from part 32, and the abutment surface is provided by a lateral tab (100) on the outer shell top panel which is folded to be under the top panel. The cigarettes are enclosed in paperaluminium foil laminate liner 16, and a strip 18 is adhered to the top region to limit the extent of tearing of the liner during opening thereof. A label and transparent overwrap may be provided.
