Abstract

Range-finders.-Two telescopes L, L<1> are mounted on a graduated slide R, one being fixed and the other movable along the slide by means of a. screwed spindle v rotated from the graduated disk f. The fixed telescope L is mounted to rotate in a vertical plane at right-angles to the slide and is situated above the level of the telescope L<1>, so that the latter may slide beneath the former to the zero mark on the scale, which corresponds with the axis of the fixed telescope. The movable telescope is fixed on its slide at such an angle that, when placed over the unit mark on the scale, the telescope is sighted on an object at a given unit distance. To determine the range of any desired object, the fixed telescope is levelled and sighted on the object, and the movable telescope moved along the slide until the object is again sighted. The range may then be determined from the readings on the slide and graduated disk f. The apparatus is mounted to rotate on a graduated plate supported on a stand.
