Abstract

1470270 Intrinsic safety barriers PETROLITE CORP 7 Jan 1975 [27 March 1974] 677/75 Heading H2K To prevent excessive voltages appearing at a terminal 39 which is supplied via a line A, four voltage-responsive short-circuiting switches 43, 44, 46, 47 are connected between the line and earth, two responding to positive voltages and two to negative voltages and each comprising a triac triggered via a Zener diode. The shortcircuiting action may blow a fuse 51. Resistors 52-54 reduce the current and facilitate testing. There may be a plurality of lines A feeding respective terminals 39, in which case each line is connected through respective sets of diodes 31, 32 to switches common to all lines.
