Abstract

1467649 Amplifiers; limiters; gain control NOVANEX AUTOMATION NV 21 May 1974 [22 May 1973] 22740/74 Heading H3T and H4R A power amplifier is provided with a limiter which is so connected to a potentiometer comprising two resistors and a Zener diode coupled between the output of the amplifier and a power supply terminal that the limiting level increases with mains voltage. Pre-amplifier 1 has input terminals 2 and is coupled by capacitor 3 to power amplifier 4 which drives loud-speaker 5. The input at the power amplifier is shunted by FET 10, the gate 13 of which is biased via resistor 14 and a series diode from the tapping point of a potentiometer comprising resistors 18, 19 and Zener diode 17, connected between the negative supply line and output of power amplifier 4. The gate 13 is also connected to the input of power amplifier 4 via resistor 15 and capacitor 16 to make its characteristic symmetrical. The cut-off characteristic is smoothed by means of a pair of reversely-poled diodes 7, 8 in series with adjustable resistor 9 across resistor 6. The Specification includes also, but does not describe, a complete circuit-diagram of the power amplifier (Fig. 2, not shown).
