Abstract

1461442 Timing ignition BENDIX CORP 29 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 04118/74 Heading F1B A vacuum actuated device for regulating the spark advance mechanism 100 of an internal combustion engine distributor 110 comprises means 20 for sensing the engine air-flow for generating a vacuum signal which varies in relation to air-flow, a vacuum source 30 maintained at a vacuum level greater than the vacuum signal, and an altitude sensing means 40 for generating a mechanical signal, and a summing means 10 communicates with both the sensing means and the intake manifold pressure for summing the signals thereof such as to provide a vacuum control signal to the spark advance mechanism 100 equal to the summation whereby the spark advance mechanism will receive a control signal which is a function of absolute ambient pressure and engine speed. The device may further include a temperature sensing means 50 for generating a temperature signal which is also communicated to the summing means. Two cantilevered bi-metallic members 55 and 56 are operative to move toward and away from valve seats 52 and 53 respectively. A modified form of the summing means 10 is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
