Abstract

1454993 Forming Ni-Fe alloy films POST OFFICE 18 Jan 1974 [7 Nov 1972] 51316/72 Heading C7F A substrate is coated with Al in a pattern which is a negative of the desired Ni-Fe pattern, Ni-Fe is deposited over the Al and the substrate, and subsequently the Al and its overlying Ni-Fe are removed to leave the required pattern of Ni-Fe. Preferably the Al is vacuum vapour-deposited; it may be shaped by deposition through a mask or by photo-lithographic and etching techniques; the Ni-Fe may also be vapour-deposited, to a thickness of 0À4-1À0Á, typical films containing Ni and Fe in the range 76%Ni + 24% Fe to 80% Ni + 20% Fe; the A1 film is preferably, but not necessarily, thicker. It is subsequently removed with NaOH solution, preferably with agitation or brushing. The substrate may be glass or garnet coated with SiO 2 ; its temperature is monitored on both faces by thermocouples and a movable screen is placed between substrate and source when deposition is not required.
