Abstract

1420822 Mould for electroslag remelting process INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 6 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 10921/73 Heading B3F A mould for making an article having a projecting portion by an electroslag remelting process comprises a part 1 for forming the body of the article and a part 2 for forming the said projecting portion, the part 2 being provided with a passage 3 for a coolant. The inlet 6 and outlet 8 for the coolant are positioned so that the coolant flows from the region adjacent the consumable electrode 7 to the region adjacent the free end of the projecting portion. There may be a plurality of passages 3 connected at their ends by collectors 4 and 5 or the passage may be in the form of a helix the pitch of which increases in the direction of the free end of the said projecting portion. The thickness of the walls of the mould part 2 increase in the same direction so that, in use, the region adjacent the electrode is more intensively cooled than the region at the free end of the said projecting portion.
