Abstract

1417227 Two-stroke engines BRUNSWICK CORP 9 Aug 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 37804/73 Heading F1B Petrol and oil mixture collecting in one of the crank-chambers 23 of the crank-case 21 is delivered to one of the crank-shaft bearings 25, the arrangement being such that the proportion of the collected mixture flowing to the bearing increases with increase in engine speed. The conduits 30 and 32 connected to the crank-chamber 23 and bearing cover 39 respectively are connected by a fitting 31 having a passage 37 opening to the transfer passage 28 from the other crank-chamber 21 to the associated cylinder 12. The diameters of the passages 33, 35, 37 and a passage (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), in a pipe (38) connecting the conduit 36 to the cover 39 are such that with the pressure changes which occur in the passage 28 and the chamber 23 all or most of the collected mixture flows into the passage 28 when the engine is idling and as the engine speed increases an increasing proportion flows to the bearing 25. In an engine with vertical cylinders the crank-case is arranged so that petrol and oil mixture collects in one crankcase chamber and is used to lubricate a bearing or bearings not associated with the one chamber.
