Abstract

1403040 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 28 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 59876/72 Heading B8R Apparatus for regulating the position of a platform 101 upon which sheets 102 are stacked is provided with direction determining means to produce first and second signals for lowering and raising the stack respectively. The lowest position of the platform 101 is sensed by a transducer 121. When switch 125 is closed, platform 101 is lowered to its lowest position until transducer 121 is operated. As soon as switch 125 is opened, the control circuit is such that platform 101 is raised until the topmost sheet is detected in the feed position by a transducer 123. However, this raising only occurs if the door of the cabinet housing the platform 101 is closed (detected by transducer 122), the machine to which the sheets are fed is ready to operate, and a switch 124 is closed by the operator. Opening the door 107 will automatically stop lowering or raising of the platform 101 if it is in progress. The invention is not limited to vertical movement of the platform 101 and embraces all movement, e.g. lateral movement. (For Figure see next page.)
