Bushes, bolt-hole; screw sockets; locking nuts. - Relates to sockets for fixing in beds or foundations of concrete, cement, plaster, stone, brick, &c. to receive a holding-down bolt, spike, screw, &c. As shown in Fig. 14, the socket A is formed with external ribs of any suitable formation to prevent turning of the socket when embedded in concrete &c. The interior of the socket may be plain or fluted and, in the arrangement shown, is adapted to receive a split nut B with a conical exterior to engage the holding-down bolt C. As the bolt is tightened, the split nut contracts and grips the bolt thread, thus locking the nut in position. The nut may be provided with lugs to engage grooves in the socket so as to prevent turning; in one modification, these lugs engage a bayonet-groove in the socket, so that when the bolt is disengaged, the nut is retained in the socket. In place of lugs on the bolt, the exterior of the nut may be of polygonal shape to engage the socket. The nut may 'be dispensed with and the interior of the socket screw-threaded to engage a stud or spike.
