Abstract

1392585 Calculating device PEORIA JOURNAL STAR Inc 18 June 1973 [13 July 1972] 28789/73 Heading G4B A calculating device comprises panels 3, 5 and 7, Fig. 8, foldable at lines 9 and 11 to the closed form shown in Figs 1 and 2, wherein scale 21 overlies a portion of a strip 13, which bears scales and is carried by panel 3 and is movable parallel to the fold lines 9 and 11. Strip 13 may be an endless belt or merely a strip with two ends and may be threaded through two slots formed in panel 3, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown). In the form shown, strip 13 is an endless belt retained in notches 15, 17 of panel 3. The scales may be linear, square, square root or, as shown, logarithmic. The belt shown has four logarithmic scales, two on each face. Each scale includes a longitudinal coloured stripe, the edges of which provide an indication of the position of the decimal point. Indicator 23 occurs at "zero" on a linear scale and at value 1À00 on other scales. The device may be used for currency conversions. A transparent sheath, Figs. 13, 14 (not shown), may be provided for holding the device in its closed form.
