1371595 Nuclear fuel BELGONUCLEAIRE SA 15 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12608/73 Heading G6C In a process for making ceramic nuclear fuel pellets consisting of fissile and fertile materials by mixing the powdered fissile and fertile constituents, pelletizing, and sintering, and in which fabrication scrap is powdered and returned to the process, the amount of recycled powder is maintained constant by replacing or supplementing the fabrication scrap, when necessary, with powder derived from pellets consisting only of fertile material. An example describes the preparation of pellets comprising 96% UO 2 and 4% PuO 2 , using powder obtained from pellets consisting only of UO 2 to supplement the recycled powdered scrap.
