Abstract

1371155 6-Methyluracil WACKER CHEMIE GmbH 27 July 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 35170/72 Heading C2C 6-Methyluracil is prepared by reacting urea with diketene in an organic solvent, optionally with the addition of acetic anhydride, in the presence of, as catalyst, a compound of the formula wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl group, and X is CH or a nitrogen atom, and/or a sodium salt of a (C 1 -C 4 ) carboxylic acid in an amount of from 0À1 to 10 grams per mol of one of the reactants, the ureide formation being carried out at a temperature of from 10 to 40‹ C. and the cyclization subsequently being carried out at a temperature of from 80 to 150‹ C.
