1369499 Explosive compositions SOC FRANCAISE DES EXPLOSIFS 2 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970 5 Aug 1971] 50880/71 Heading C1D A non-aqueous substantially oxygen-balanced high explosive composition in the form of a thickened liquid of pourable consistency comprises nitroglyceroglycol, an organic component which acts as a thickener and desensitizer, and a combustion-supporting substance. The organic component may comprise an organic thickening agent and an oxygenated organic solvent which is miscible with nitroglyceroglycol and acts as a desensitizer; alternatively a single organic compound (e.g. polyvinyl acetate) may act both as thickener and desensitizer. Thickening agents specified are nitrocotton, polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer, cellulose acetate, methyl polymethacrylate, methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate copolymer, and glycol-phthalic acid polycondensate. Miscible organic solvents which may be used are dibutyl phthalate, dimethyl phthalate, glycerol triacetate, ethylene glycol diacetate, diethylene glycol, methyl tartrate, methyl malonate, and methyl maleate. The combustion supporting substance may be ammonium nitrate, either unground and of low porosity, or finely ground and of medium porosity; sodium, potassium, and calcium nitrates may also be added. Other optional ingredients referred to are sodium methylnaphthalene sulphonate, sodium alkylbenzene sulphonate, or fuchaine as an antisetting agent, and aluminium to provide extra heat of combustion.
