1331608 Isostatic mouldings FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 15 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 49066/70 Heading B5A An isostatic moulding apparatus has an outer casing 1 with a flexible, e.g. rubber, mould 7 therein backed by contouring rings 3 held in place by bars 5 and screws 4 so that they can be fixed during filling but released to accommodate dimensional changes during pressing. In operation, to mould an electrical insulator, screws 6 are tightened to draw the rings 3 to the outer casing, and the mould 7 is inserted with its upper end turned down over the casing top. A ceramic material or powdered metal is then filled into the mould and compacted by vibration, before a plug 8 is inserted. The plug 8 has a lining which is also turned over the casing top and with the mould 7, clamped by a ring 9. Before subjecting the mould to pressure, the screws 6 are slackened to allow the rings 3 to float. The screws 4 are adjustably located in elongated slots in the bars 5.
