Abstract

Machine guns. - Relates to automatic guns of the Vickers type, and consists in providing at one or each end of the crankshaft an eccentric connected by a chain or band to a spring, so that the leverage at which the spring acts increases during recoil. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the right-hand end of the crank-shaft CS carries an eccentric E which is connected to the main spring 1 by a chain C<2>, so that the leverage exerted on the shaft increases as the crank C moves upwards to open the lock. The forward end of the spring 1 is adjustably connected to a bracket L on the gun casing. A similar eccentric and chain may be arranged on the left-hand end of the crank-shaft so as to operate on a spring 1<a>.
