Abstract
1,251,304. Razor blades. PHILIP MORRIS Inc. 18 Dec., 1969 [3 Feb., 1969], No. 61658/69. Heading B4B. A razor blade 11 comprises a self-contained guard 10 in the form of a flexible sheet having a row of aligned holes with 25, with lands 26, the sheet being secured to the opposed surfaces of the blade with the holes and lands extending over and around the cutting edge of the blade, the outer surface of the sheet, including the lands, being covered by a plastics material. The guard sheet 10 may be a thin layer 15 of P.T.F.E. provided with an adhesive backing for securing it to the blade; the P.T.F.E. may be re-inforced by glass fibres. Alternatively, the P.T.F.E. layer 17, Fig. 5, may be secured by adhesive 19 to a backing 18, e.g. of aluminium foil, the backing being coated with adehsive 20 for securing the sheet to the blade; the P.T.F.E. layer may be sprayed on to the backing. The holes 25 may be pierced in the sheet after the P.T.F.E., is applied to the backing so that a portion of the P.T.F.E. (17a, Fig. 5a) is pulled into the hole and so covers any rough edges. The blade 11 may be mounted in a razor (Fig. 6) made from plastics material.
