Abstract

1,229,589. Oval cigars. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and D. W. MOLINS. 9 Aug., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 37065/67. Heading A2C. A cigar has a filler of portions of tobacco leaf and a surrounding wrapper, the leaf portions being arranged so as to tend to lie flat in substantially parallel planes so as to tend to cause the cigar to assume an oval cross-section whose major axis is parallel to said planes. Portions of threshed tobacco leaf are fed in an air stream to the underside of a suction-backed flat porous endless conveyer band to form a filler stream in which the leaf portions tend to lie flat. The stream is then trimmed, deposited on a continuous wrapper web, wrapped and severed into individual cigars. Assemblies of a double length mouthpiece section between a pair of said cigars are then abutted, united and bisected and the resulting mouthpiece cigars are, after suitable . orientation, pressed in a direction normal to the planes in which the tobacco is tending to lie so as to shape both the cigars and their attached mouthpieces into an oval crosssection.
