Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a storage container for liquids/gases, pre- 6cast concrete sections, e.g. 15, 11 are joined in a fluid-tight manner by applying a coating of resilient material 17, 18 (Fig. 5) viz bituminous paint or a rubber sheet, to the edges of the sections to be joined before filling the gaps between such sections, with concrete 23, the joints thereafter being permanently stressed in compression. This latter is achieved by stressing cables 24 which bridge the gaps between adjacent sections. The cables are of a length slightly greater than one half the circumference of the tank and are brought out to the exterior at diametrically opposed sections, e.g. 11, 12 (Fig. 4). The joints between the wall sections and roof segments/concrete base are made fluid tight by the interposition of a circumferentially extending rubber strip (44, 26, Fig. 2 not shown).
